APPLYING THE PRACTICUM
- This was the first time I held a sports beat writer position, and seeing as that is my dream job, it was a good place to start
- Shortly after finishing my practicum, I was named the Maryland baseball beat writer for The Diamondback, the university’s student newspaper
- I took my writing and interviewing experiences and lessons from the practicum and applied them to my work on The Diamondback
- The more experience I am able to gain in my field and the more diverse my skills, the better off I will be
- I am particularly grateful that I was able to do more than write with this practicum
- I gained valuable broadcast and social media skills that I will carry with me into future jobs
FUTURE PLANS
- For the rest of my time at Maryland…
- I will continue to work at The Diamondback

- I will also continue my work as a beat writer, covering Maryland football, men’s basketball and baseball
- I am planning to graduate with a journalism degree and a demography minor in May 2022
- I will continue to work at The Diamondback
- After graduation…
- I plan to continue my interest inn journalism and pursue a career in sports writing
- Ideally, I would become a baseball beat writer covering a MLB team
